Objectives and Features

The first portion of the doctoral program aims to develop specialists with deep insights into business administration, marketing theory, and accounting.
The second portion of the doctoral program aims to develop individuals who are capable of conducting their own studies as independent researchers, and put their abilities to practical use in real world issues.
The program is characterized by coursework tailored to each individual students’ research theme, small class sizes, research guidance provided through evaluation, and guidance from multiple instructors.
Another feature is the diverse style of classes offered. Other than just focusing primarily on reading references, there are case-study discussions and data analysis. All courses are designed to help students develop necessary skills in analysis, real-life application, and communication.
Theories and analytical methods learned through the Master’s (Doctoral) Program in Management may be applied to various tasks.
For example :
・Drawing out corporate strategies for product development, international expansion, M&A, and more.
・Internal organization designs for corporations.
・Managing various risks in corporate activity.
・Building relationships with investors using financial informational and non-financial information, capital structure choice, and more.

Selection of Candidates

First portion of the doctoral program
・Selections are based on written examination regarding the course subjects (one of the following three subjects: business administration, marketing theory, or accounting) and English, as well as an oral examination based on your research plan.
・The English written examination requirement can be waived depending on scores from TOEFL or TOEFL ITP tests administered by Sophia.
Second portion of the doctoral program
・Selections are based on an written examination regarding one of the course subjects (business administration, marketing theory, or accounting), as well as an oral examination based on your master’s thesis (or equivalent work) and research plan.

Application and admission process for working adults
・Selections are based on a written application and an oral examination based on your research plan.
